Better days are on us - get out to the beach!!
Wednesday, October 24th, 2007Visitor numbers on the beaches are starting to increase on the nicer days, as people shake off the winter chills and head for the water. Official reports at Sunnyside last weekend stated that the water was “bloody freezing”, yet a few people still managed to have a swim and not get hypothermia!! Of course, you should always be wary of anyone who says “it’s lovely, once you’re in…”!!
A short update today, to remind everyone as the weather warms up that we need everyone on the beaches this summer. After the battles with the councils last summer to save our rights to our beaches, you can be sure we’ll be watched and assessed by the councils this summer for any excuse to have the clothing-optional gazetting removed.
We’re not asking people write letters or attend meetings (yet!), but we do ask that you show your support of the beaches by actually going to them. A popular beach that is well behaved and community focussed is our best defence against council efforts to move us along.
We also ask that everyone be familiar with appropriate beach etiquette - read the FAQ on this site, and check out the FBA etiquette page at Link: Free Beach Etiquette. If you see something inappropriate, report it!! If the facilities are not up to acceptable standards, report it!! Clean up
If we don’t take a proactive approach to protecting our beaches, and do everything we can to ensure we can keep using them in future, then we’ll lose them. Help us prevent that from happening!!
(and if you want to lend a hand or show your support, feel free to drop us a comment here, or contact us on the details on the contacts page!
