Notes from the April workshop have been released
The Surf Coast Shire has officially released the summary outcome notes from the workshop held with stakeholders on 29 April. To summarise, the notes indicate:
- Statistical evidence of increased inappropriate behaviour would be required before additional police patrols could be justified.
- Work towards changing public mindset was required, since it appears that there have been instances of inappropriate behaviour that have gone unreported (we always recommend reporting any inappropriate behaviour, help the police keep our beach family friendly)
- The installation of a surveillance camera was suggested, but the costs of installation and monitoring would need to be assessed further
- Additional brushing could be used around the dunes to reduce erosion and prevent unauthorised foot traffic through the dunes. Brush matting has been proven to work well in the past in rehabilitating dunes damaged by people
- Esatblish a “Friends of Point Impossible Beach” group to get the greater community more involved in preserving the beach
- Improvements to the carpark including additional signage may be required, and additional signage in general to better delineate the beach from other areas (particularly in light of the new dig regulations)
Another meeting of the working group is scheduled for October, to address these ideas (and collate the various costs/efforts/participants before the next summer season commences)
