Nakation – The Bare Necessities

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

A great article appeared on the The Greenwich Citizen, talking about Nakations, or the growing popularity of naked holidays. The nudist/naturist demographic is growing, as we’ve seen with more news about holidays and property investments – particularly in the US, where is certainly appears to be growing in popularity fast enough to attract attention of the textiles!

From the article:

The headquarters of the American Association for Nude Recreation, founded in 1931, is located in Kissimmee, Florida. Their Web site confirms that nude recreation as a whole is growing in popularity: “Over 18 percent of all Americans would find a visit to a nudist club or other clothes-free experience a highly desirable vacation choice, according to survey results in USA Today.”

Growing popularity is a great result for the nudist community – we already know what everyone else is missing out on, so it’s great to see the word getting out there!! What word is that? The article summed it up nicely”

[The] idea of a wholesome, relaxing nakation, where going fishing is done strictly in the nude, “where everyone watches out for each other, where there’s never any pressure,” and where “being free and enjoying the sun and air and water in the company of like-minded people who make you feel secure,” was what it was all about.

Nudist Activities, For Real!!

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Following on from our previous post, the team over at Aussie Naturists are following through with their great idea to get more interesting and exciting activities onto the nudist agenda – brilliant!!

We received a note from their president, who sent over this message:

[we] now have a total of 44 nudist activities available, which I am still in the process of organising. I would like to let you know that Nude Bowling in Victoria is likely to be the first event to be held, and would like your support in getting it up and running. We are going to need 150 members to hire the venue and make it happen, but it is a great opportunity for nudists to get involved and socialise.

Is there 150 Victorian nudists interested in giving nude bowling a go?? Get yourself over to the Aussie Naturists website and leave a comment (and register yourself on the site if you haven’t already!)

Nudist activities – what, no pétanque?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

An interesting post appeared on the Melbourne Nudists Naturists online forum yesterday, asking readers if they were interested in activities with a bit more excitement!! Apparently it is a common gripe amongst the younger nudists in the community, who are apparently not that interested in pétanque or badminton!!

It’s high time we lifted our lifestyle out of the duldrums and raised our profile and activity levels with some fun, out-doorsy, adrenaline packed adventure.

We agree, and we applaud http://aussienaturists.com for kicking off such a great idea!!

Property markets stable for savvy nudist investor

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

There has been a recent flurry of articles coming out of the US over the last few weeks talking about how the property market is stable for the nudist investor, while the usual property market flounders and struggles. One of the most interesting articles talking about this phenomenon can be found here -> Click here

The article is interesting because it is quite objective in its commentary – nudists are investors, and the real-estate market is one of the first to pick up on this!!

“It is a very big industry,” says Carolyn Hawkins, spokesperson for the American Association for Nude Recreation. “We’ve gone from a $400m to a $450m industry in the past five years, mostly based on real estate. There are now 268 naturist clubs and resort-communities throughout the US [up from 212 in 1998], with about 30 in Florida alone.”

Resort-style properties appear the most popular – more common in the US and Europe, the concept of owning a villa in what effectively amounts to a “Gated Community” (where the public are not permitted access, residents only allowed!) permits like-minded nudists to partake of the lifestyle without worrying about what the neighbours might think!

Nudists in general are an estate agent’s dream. “They tend to be older people, probably a little more settled, who generally don’t require mortgages and are prepared to pay a premium just to live here,” says Marc Seligman, who lives at The Oasis, a small naturist community in Pasco County, Florida.

Shared back yards are apparently common in these communities. Picture a standard Australian block of houses, and you’ll find these communities look the same out the front – but out the back, there are often no back fences (or pool-type fencing instead) with large shared areas including swimming pools and recreation areas!

This concept of community living never really took off in Australia to any great extent like it has in Europe (Cape D’Agde) or the US (quite a few places throughout Florida). Part of it is due to climate, where this kind of arrangement seems popular in places that are hotter and more humid for longer during the year than we see here in Australia. Still, we’ve not heard of any nudist Gated Communities even in Queensland, the best state for nudist lifestyles and still the only state without legalised CO beaches!! Go figure…

Australia has such a small nudist population in comparison to the other countries, it is no surprise that the opportunities for nudists and nudist living is more diverse and different to our own opportunities. Perhaps one day Australia will reach the point where the nudist property market is large enough to be recognised and marketed to!
