This site came into existence late 2004 when it was found that there was no Internet representation for the specific use of the Free Beach Association of Victoria (FBAVic) and the Nudist Association of Victoria (NAVic). The Victorian community has long struggled with presenting a coordinated and easily accessible face to the textiled and non-textiled alike, and the intent of this site was to alleviate some aspects of the issue.
The aim of this site was therefore simple and obvious – to provide a facility whereby both associations could be provided with a professional, coordinated, front door to the outside world, and use it for the collation and dissemination of useful information to the nudist/naturist community.
Soon after the creation of the site, it was discovered that (on paper at least) the Free Beach Association of Victoria was no longer formally registered (deeper investigation into the history has never been undertaken, so we’re not sure when or how it lapsed). It was also found that the Nudist Association of Victoria did in fact exist and was operational, but had no Internet presence and was sometimes difficult to get in touch with.
Today, the FBAVic is still not registered, and may never need to be – currently the Victorian community falls under the auspices of the national Free Beaches Australia inc (Click here – FBA, based in Queensland), and the Australian Nudist Federation (Click here – ANF, also based in Queensland), if they have paid their memberships. NAVic appears to be continuing with the status quo – representatives encouraged the (re)creation of FBAVic, but have not otherwise made any comment or protest regarding this site or the efforts of the more vocal members of the community!
If Victorian beach users are not paying members of either of the two national organisations, then their interests are formally not represented by those bodies.
What this means for you, dear reader…
Hopefully it means good things for readers of this site and the various other community interest groups. This site will be kept updated with the latest information and links from around Victoria, nationally and (less frequently) around the globe. New functionality is always being planned, including news feeds and links to forums. Of course, the content should and will be driven by the community – if you want something, let us know. If you stay quiet, we’ll make it up ourselves!!
With the information provided by this site, beach users and nudists in Victoria have a resource upon which they can get new information, and perhaps become involved in the community. We don’t ask for membership subscriptions, we don’t even ask for personal details. All we ask is that Victorians be active participants!! The community needs to be vibrant and visible – we get that on the beach already every summer, now we want the same thing on the Internet!!
