Surf Coast expecting a busy Easter

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

An article ran in the Geelong Echo today, “Easter packed out on the coast”, it would appear Tourist Information centres are getting enough nude beach enquiries to warrant reporting it in the newspaper!!

At tourist information centres staff, are busy answering inquiries from hundreds of people wanting information on on everything from accommodation to the locations of nudist beaches.

We’ve got great beaches in Victoria, and it would appear word is getting out!! If you are on the beaches this Easter, please behave like a true nudist and represent our community well! And if you see anything untoward, or anyone in the dunes, report it!!

Our beaches in The Age!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

A great article about all the beaches in The Age today. According to the article:

For more than 30 years, nudists have been getting their gear off around Melbourne. Here’s Metro’s guide to the best clothes-free beaches. Luke Buckmaster reports

Great comments from Barbara Rolfe, who represented the views of the nudist/naturist community very well in the article. Werner Jacob, president of the Nudist Association of Victoria, also made some excellent comments, so thanks to both of you.

More from the article:

Nakedness and liberation is an association widely echoed within the nudist community, but self-empowerment tends to mean little to those who campaign against public nudity. Pro-nude organisations such as Free Beaches Australia Incorporated claim their shores are constantly under threat from the nudity naysayers: councils, property developers and religious lobbyers.

Plan for cameras canned

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

One of the proposals outlined at a Surf Coast Shire Council beach update workshop discussed the installation of security CCTV cameras in beach car parks along the Surf Coast Shire. The proposal was not limited to the CO beaches, as there is apparently inappropriate behaviour occurring in car parks in general.

As quoted in the article:

Surf Coast Shire Cr Brian McKiterick said the cameras, which were poised to be installed on the beach’s car park last October, were still being reviewed.

“There are ongoing investigations to determine if the cameras would be a benefit or not,” Cr McKiterick said.

“There have been no reports of obscene behaviour and police have increased patrols over the summer to make sure people are not entering dunes.”

Cameras were always going to be a tricky proposition, and other methods of controlling inappropriate behaviour appeared to improve the situation. Fines for entering and being found in the dunes, plus increased police patrols were always going to be more effective than cameras.

New Surf Coast Mayor, but it was close!

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

The news is in and it’s all good – Cr Dean Webster is now Mayor of the Surf Coast Shire Council. Like Cr Rose Hodge before him, we found Dean to be a reasonable and logical Councillor, willing to hear all sides of a discussion and let common sense prevail.

But it wasn’t a landslide win, and it does look like we’re heading into another period of split council. If anyone knows how council terms work (ie how long councillors serve, re-elections, etc), we’d appreciate hearing from you.

The Victorian nudist community has never asked councils anywhere to pick sides – just stick to the facts and give nudists a fair go!! We’re no different to anyone else on the beaches, we just wear less!!

Here’s the link to the article if you want to read more -> Click here!!

And remember, if you see anything inappropriate on the legal nude beaches, make sure you report it!! In particular, the carparks and dunes areas are NOT part of the nude beaches – be responsible nudists, make a stand for our facilities and report anything you see!!

Letter to GA editor response

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

After the fascinating but completely misleading article “Nude Beach Sex Shock”, the Addy was good enough to run a letter to the editor response, which they could have ignored so kudos to them for printing it up!!

We couldn’t locate an online version, so here’s a scan from the paper itself -> Click here

We completely agree – if there is any kind of activity going on that should be reported to police, do so!! Nude beach, clothed beach, or centre of town – inappropriate behaviour should be reported.

Thanks Rob for writing in to the paper – be great if more people wrote in to the papers, but if you don’t want to be that outspoken, drop us a line here and let us know your thoughts.
